Wellington is one of the more distinctive Northern Colorado towns because it feels genuinely separate from Fort Collins — you drive north out of the city, cross open ranchland, and arrive in what still feels like a small farming community with its own identity. That geographic isolation has real air-quality implications. The area immediately around Wellington is working ranch and agricultural land, and the wind here — Wellington sits at about 5,200 feet on the open plains — is unrelenting.
